Distance: 12.5km

Elevation gain: 1362m

Time required: 5-6 hours

I recently hiked to Wedgemount Lake in Garibaldi Provincial Park. I had heard a lot about it as it's quite popular. I can see now why that is!

The parking lot is at the end of Wedge Creek FSR just past Whistler. This meant about a 2 hour drive for me coming from Burnaby. The trail is mostly a forested incline the entire way until reaching a talus slope just below the lake. Once cresting the boulder field, you are rewarded with the most amazing views. It took me 2 hours and 15 minutes to reach the campground above the lake so it is not a long hike.

I spent a long time at the lake, including going for a swim. The water was the coldest I had ever been in. No one else at the lake actually went in the water, however, I am a bit crazy and I love cold water.

There are 20 tent pads surrounding the lake as well as a pit toilet and hut

You can also hike around Wedgemount Lake's eastern side and go over to Tupper Lake where you can get a glimpse at the fast-receding Wedgemount Glacier. I did not know about this at the time otherwise I would have done it.

A short 2 hour hike back to the parking lot completed my excellent day.
