Sumas Mountain is a small peak that sits above the Abbotsford valley just south of the Fraser River.
The trail starts off of Sumas Mountain Road. There's a trailhead on the side of the road with a sign guiding you onto the Centennial Trail (so called as it was constructed in 1967 for Canada's 100-year anniversary). The trail slowly climbs through forested slopes, crossing several streams. It was a moderate 1.5 hour hike to reach Chadsey Lake. It would be a nice lake to swim in and it even has a rope swing, though I didn't go for a dip today.

From the lake, it's a 45 minute to 1 hour hike to the official summit known as Eastern Viewpoint. However, this summit doesn't offer great views due to trees blocking it. 100m north of the viewpoint is a rock bluff that offers fantastic views of the Fraser Valley.

I would highly recommend this trail anytime of the year. Winter, spring, and summer all offer distinct experiences. This trail is accessible to anyone, as it is moderate in length and intensity, and does not require 4WD to reach the trailhead. Get out there and see Sumas Mountain for yourself!
What a beautiful winter hike! And super cool to see what you're up to. :) - Monika Loevenmark
