Distance: 7km round-trip
Elevation gain: 300m
Time required: 3 hours total
Making the trip out to Mount Baker has been a goal of mine for a long time now. My mom and her partner had heard from coworker about snowshoeing Huntoon Point and so we all decided to give it a go one Saturday.
In the summer, this hike is very short and starts from the Artist Point trailhead at the top of Mt. Baker Hwy. However, in the winter, the Artist Point trailhead is covered in snow so you have to park much further down the road by the lodge. Parking is free. We walked up the road to the overflow parking lot and started our snowshoe from there. The winter route is well-marked as it is quite popular.
The hike has a bit of elevation gain but it is not too intense. There are several sections where people have carved their own pathways and thus you can choose which path you would like to follow.
Many people stop once reaching what looks like a big open space but is actually the Artist Point trailhead parking lot. The views of Mount Baker and the surrounding Cascade peaks from here are stunning. You can walk a further 2.5km to Huntoon Point, a slightly elevated ridge, that has similar stunning views of the area.

The reward to effort ratio on this hike is very high. I would highly recommend going in the winter, where there is great backcountry skiing too.
