Distance: 20km

Elevation gain: 1188m

Time required: 6.5-7.5 hours

Alouette Mountain is a beautiful peak in Golden Ears Provincial Park.

There are two route options for this hike:

  • Via the Eric Dunning Trail (this is the longer route and the one I did)

  • Via the West Canyon Trail (same elevation gain but over a much shorter distance, making it feel harder)

I chose the route via Eric Dunning Trail. That trailhead starts off of Mike Lake Road not too far from the park entrance. It's a tiny gravel lot, only capable of fitting 4-5 cars. The trail alternates between forest and service road for much of the hike. It was a gradual incline, nothing intense. It got slightly more steep just before the summit. It took me 3 hours to reach the top.

Blanshard Needle and Edge Peak are very close to Alouette Mountain. Golden Ears Peak can be seen sticking out between the two in the background.

I spent a good hour at the summit, taking in the views. Then did another 3 hours back down.
